KEY NOTES
Weather Contingencies (⚠️)
Field work (Tuesday)
If weather is poor, move drone mapping and scavenger hunt indoors or reschedule. Focus on water testing and hīnaki setting if conditions allow.
Netting (Wednesday)
Dependent on safe river conditions. Have indoor alternative activity ready (e.g., additional dissection prep, video content on tuna lifecycle).
Tarākeha visit (Wednesday)
If low tide is delayed or unsafe, move to afternoon or substitute with indoor marine ecology content.
Tide Timing
Tuesday low tide
~10:30am
(optimal for Te Hānoa hīkoi and field work)
Wednesday low tide
~11:00am
(optimal for Tarākeha marine preview)

Technology Requirements
  • Kahoot: Requires Wi-Fi & at least 8 devices (smartphones/tablets for 10 tauira, with some sharing)
  • Drone mapping: Weather-dependent; confirm drone availability with Ashlee
  • Apps needed: MCI invertebrate app, Pest app, eDNA kit app (if available)

Kai Timing
  • Tuesday: Packed lunch/takeaways at 11:00am (before field work)
  • Wednesday: Takeaway lunches at 11:15am (between dissection and microscope work)

Staffing Considerations
  • Ensure adequate supervision for field work (10 tauira requires 2–3 adults)
  • Lab work (dissection/microscope) may need smaller groups or rotation system
  • Drone operation requires trained operator (Ashlee)
